Night dive on the house reef of Modessa Island in Palawan is so easy. The house reef is accessed right in front of the Dive Center , the diving and snorkelling sites are protected against fishing, there is a large diversity of coral and marine fish species to see. The maximum depth of the house reef is 17m with an average depth of 10m, perfect for beginners and Padi Open Water Diver course as well as those who like long dive times of 1hr or more, having no issues with running into decompression.
The water temperature throughout the year ranges from 27 degrees C to 31 degrees C and diving in a 3mm wet suite or shorty is sufficient enough to stay warm underwater. Diving at night is an amazing experience, a coral reef blooms in full colour during the night as your dive light illuminates the full spectrum of colours that you don’t see as vividly during the daylight. Sting Rays and crustaceans roam the sea bed in search of a meal and many fish species are easily observed close up as they rest and sleep.
Colourful parrot fish hide
in the corals and cocoon themselves on their own saliva which camouflages them
against predation. Squid can be seen dancing in the spot of a dive light
changing the pigmentation in the skin of its body flashing colours of blue and
red like a UFO, Night diving in Palawan can be likened to being in outer
space! If you don’t have any night diving experience you can make a PADI Adventures in Diving Night Dive and learn the right techniques required to dive safely at night under the supervision of a PADI Instructor.
