Go night diving in palawan

Night dive on the house reef of Modessa Island in Palawan is so easy. The house reef is accessed right in front of the Dive Center , the diving and snorkelling sites are protected against fishing, there is a large diversity of coral and marine fish species to see. The maximum depth of the house reef is 17m with an average depth of 10m, perfect for beginners and Padi Open Water Diver course as well as those who like long dive times of 1hr or more, having no issues with running into decompression.

The water temperature throughout the year ranges from 27 degrees C to 31 degrees C and diving in a 3mm wet suite or shorty is sufficient enough to stay warm underwater. Diving at night is an amazing experience, a coral reef blooms in full colour during the night as your dive light illuminates the full spectrum of colours that you don’t see as vividly during the daylight. Sting Rays and crustaceans roam the sea bed in search of a meal and many fish species are easily observed close up as they rest and sleep.

Colourful parrot fish hide in the corals and cocoon themselves on their own saliva which camouflages them against predation. Squid can be seen dancing in the spot of a dive light changing the pigmentation in the skin of its body flashing colours of blue and red like a UFO, Night diving in Palawan can be likened to being in outer space!

If you don’t have any night diving experience you can make a PADI Adventures in Diving Night Dive and learn the right techniques required to dive safely at night under the supervision of a PADI Instructor.

Best option - Night Diving

If you’re already a certified diver you might like to consider diving at night! Witness the mind blowing transformation of a coral reef during the night where you’ll see many fish and critters that are active only during the dark. Each night dive is unique and you can be sure to see something out of the usual on most occasions. Sting rays are more active at night swimming out in the open hunting for crabs and crustaceans to feast upon. Squids can be seen dancing and flashing colors whilst attracted to the lights of the divers. Fish that are active and evasive during the daylight are easily observed in close quarters as they rest and sleep amongst the corals such as the Parrot Fish that cocoons itself in its own saliva, an effective camoflage against predators. The large Star Puffer fish rests out in the open undeterred by the curious diver often with ramora, suckerfish, attached to their bodies. Coral themselves branch out their polyps to trap and eat the micro organisms and plankton that are active in the water.

A diver light will attract micro organisms such as worms and cryl which emit light in strips and flashes via chemical reactions looking like a scene from a science fiction movie? The dive light illuminates the true colors of the corals and things you’re familiar with in the daylight can appear completely different and more brilliant at night under a light, night diving Palawan is an experience not to be missed. If you’re not already familiar with diving at night you will need some basic training in the right techniques and protocol for safe night diving. Make a PADI adventures in diving night dive together with a PADI instructor and gain the skills necessary to dive at night safely.
